A decent restaurant for basic American food. Fair prices for a place that I perceived as upscale. I guess you could call this entry-level fine dining. I won't return as there are better options available in the area. This would be a good place for business lunches.
They food was good if slightly prices.
Visited for the first and last time. Ordered the 8 oz filet (at $35) medium rare. It was very rare/raw. Sent it back and it came back more charbroiled on the outside and still rare/raw. Went back a 2nd time and and it came back looking like it had been beaten thinner with a cleaver, even more charbroiled, and still rare in the middle! Yes it was taken off the bill but never was another steak offered. Shame on you Canoe and your management! Being one of many Common Man restauarants you should know better! Won't be back!!
It was alright. First time there, burger was pretty good but side was cold. Pricey for what you get and not much atmosphere. Better options available nearby.
Table of 6, 4 steaks, a burger and a salad. 3 out of the 4 steaks were medium rare and 1 ordered well. No apps aside from the side salad that was with 1 entree. We were promptly seated, ordered with what at best was a lack luster waitress, and proceeded to wait for our meals. Over and hour and a half to be exact. After forty minutes of waiting, we inquired as to how much longer they expected the wait to be, we were trying to make a show. Keep in mind when we arrived, we had over two hours to the show. Kept our orders basic, skipped apps, drinks, or desserts. When inquiring about our meals we were told “the table had a couple of well dones, and that takes awhile.” We continued to watch other tables receive their meals, send incorrect or subpar items back, and still awaited our entrees. Letting another half hour pass, waiting time now up to 70 mins, we asked again. Our waitress acted as though we were inconvenient and impatient for asking, but said she would go check. Another 20 minutes went by, finally her and two other brought out food. 3 medium rare steaks ordered, 3 medium well steaks arrived. Luke warm. Potatoes cold. Vegetables cold. One topped with fois gras, which arrived cold and hardened on top of said room temp steak. Only steak to arrive hot was the well done. My father and myself, both having a food service background, summed it up to someone threw everything on, not paying attention to the fact only 1 was well done. The burger the table ordered as medium well, came out well done, and charred to what one may compare a charcoal briquette. The salad that was ordered looked as though someone scraped the ingredients off a cutting board into a bowl. Zero pride in presentation, and a soggy mess with the dressing. Needless to say, waiting over an hour and a half for everything to arrive, the salad being another ten minutes behind the rest of the table.. we tried to hurry and eat some without being drastically late for our show. We asked for the bill when they brought the entrees so that we could take care of that quickly to be and leave once everyone was done. Between asking for the bill, and it arriving, is when everyone discovered how terrible their long awaited meals were. We expressed our dissatisfaction with the food, to the once again unpleasant waitress, and she went to find a manager. The manager who came over, clearly looking frazzled (my guess being he was tired of having to excuse all the other mistakes to the other patrons) after hearing our complaints, said he couldn’t imagine how anything was cold, when he watched it “come from the chefs hands straight out to the table.” Again guessing, I’d say that he watched the well done steak ordered come out at best, which would explain why it was the only hot food to arrive. After a disgruntled apology he said he would take the bill and take care of some issues. Table of six. FIVE of them TERRIBLE. 4 out of 6 at roughly $30-$37 a piece. A briquette of a burger at $16, and a strewn together soggy salad. He took $50 off the bill, didn’t even show his face back to the table and our lack luster waitress offered a muttered apology after dropping the bill, walking away as quickly as possible, with a bit of attitude to top it all off. Now I’ve worked fine dining. Line, server, hostess. My friends and family all being part of the food service industry. Absolutely nothing, and I do mean NOTHING, with our visit to your restaurant was acceptable. Your wait staff - lack luster. The food - subpar at best. Management - Poor representation of what your standards should be. All in all, I would never recommend, and honestly will never return. I watched so many other tables share in my frustrations that I honestly wouldn’t have that kind of time to waste waiting for a different outcome. You should be thankful a chef at the previous restaurant we visited had a pleasant experience and recommended you. I’m sorry for the others he recommended to as well. I’m sure had he known what his visit two months prior, compared to the service today was, he would have been far less likely to.
